Report: Aston Villa offered £200,000-a-week star to replace Martinez amid Man Utd interest

Manchester United have offered Aston Villa the chance to sign goalkeeper Andre Onana on loan before the transfer deadline, according to TBR Football.

Aiming to improve on such a dismal 2024/25 campaign, Manchester United have spent heavily in the summer market, completely revitalising their attack with a trio of additions. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all joined the club, giving manager Ruben Amorim an entirely new front three.

In their latest Premier League encounter, Man United beat Burnley 3-2 courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty from Bruno Fernandes. The win felt particularly important, given the mass amounts of pressure on Amorim's shoulders after the club's shocking Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town.

With their attack strengthened, Man United have looked at other areas of the pitch to reinforce. The Red Devils have explored potential midfield signings and are also looking into other goalkeepers, with neither Andre Onana nor Altay Bayindir seeming to be a consistent, reliable number one.

While the Red Devils hold an interest in Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who has attracted suitors with his form for Royal Antwerp, Man United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Emi Martinez of Aston Villa and it would appear that the Old Trafford side have offered the Villans a player in return.

Villa Offered Chance to Sign Onana

Andre Onana in action for Manchester United

TBR Football have reported that Manchester United have given Aston Villa the opportunity to sign Andre Onana on loan before the transfer window closes in under 24 hours. A Man United player since 2023, joining after reaching a Champions League final with Inter Milan, Onana has really struggled for form during his time with the Red Devils, amassing a catalogue of errors in his stint with the team thus far.

Man United's pursuit of Martinez is understandable, as the Argentinian would, in theory, offer Amorim's side a safe and reliable pair of hands to defend their goal. Despite their offer, however, Onana, who earns £200,000 per week, is said to be "of little interest" to Unai Emery's side, who themselves are in the market for a new shot-stopper as part of their plans for Martinez's impending departure.

With his future unclear, a loan would make sense for Onana, giving him the chance to recapture his form and either win his starting spot back at Man United or depart for a decent fee. Whatever Onana's plans may be, however, it appears that they will not be played out at Villa Park.
