Forget Wissa: Newcastle must go all-out to sign 'incredible' star for Howe on deadline day, he…

Newcastle United should do all they can to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jorgen Strand Larsen before the transfer window slams shut.

This summer has been one of strikers for Newcastle. Much of the window has been dominated with headlines about Magpies star Alexander Isak, who has insisted on a move to Liverpool and in turn, refused to play for Eddie Howe's side. Newcastle were already pursuing a striker, but Isak's sudden change of stance meant that there was even more importance in the search.

The Magpies were subject to numerous failed pursuits, missing out on targets including Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko to name just a few. Recently, Newcastle finally recruited their new number nine, signing Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart in a club-record deal as they remain in the market for further additions.

With a new striker now signed, Newcastle's transfer business looks strong, the club having also signed Malick Thiaw, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey and Aaron Ramsdale. Woltemade is, along with Will Osula, one of just two natural strikers at the club. Osula has potential, but is still a prospect, and so Newcastle's pursuit for another striker is understandable.

For much of the window, it has seemed likely that Newcastle would eventually sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford. The forward recently put out a statement in which he reinforced his desire to leave the London club, having enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 season for the Bees. The Magpies have placed bids for Wissa, though none to date have been accepted by Brentford.

Though Wissa appears to be the obvious solution, it may be that Newcastle need to focus all of their attention on an alternative target.

Newcastle Should Go All In For Strand Larsen

Jorgen Strand Larsen

Joining from Celta Vigo last summer on a loan-made-permanent, Jorgen Strand Larsen quickly established himself as one of Wolves' better players. Particularly under the management of Vitor Pereira, the Norwegian forward enjoyed a brilliant debut Premier League campaign, netting 14 league goals as Wolves, ultimately, finished well away from the bottom three.

Newcastle, who have already made bids for Strand Larsen, remain interested in the striker, who did not feature in Wolves' recent 3-2 defeat to Everton at Molineux. Reportedly, the forward is keen on joining Newcastle, which could make a potential transfer easier for the Magpies, given Wolves have repeatedly stated that they do not wish to sell their number nine.

In Strand Larsen, who has been called an "incredible" striker, Newcastle would be signing a player similar to Woltemade in that, while both can operate as traditional, powerful target men, they both also possess a high technical ability with the ball. Wissa would certainly offer something different to Newcastle's attack, but Strand Larsen would allow Howe to rotate two more physical striking options.

Strand Larsen is younger than Wissa, another factor that works in the Norwegian's favour. As such, Newcastle may come to view the Wolves forward as a better investment as they prepare to return to the Champions League.
