Liverpool players supported Trent Alexander-Arnold on social media hours before their match against Arsenal. Real Madrid beat Mallorca on Saturday night, with the right-back returning to their starting line-up.

Alexander-Arnold began their previous match away against Real Oviedo on the bench. Dani Carvajal replaced him in the much-changed team that Xabi Alonso fielded for that 3-0 win. However, he reverted to the summer signing back at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium this weekend.

It was almost a perfect return, as Alexander-Arnold assisted Kylian Mbappe for what Madrid thought was the opening goal inside seven minutes. However, the video assistant referee found a marginal offside, and thus the goal was ruled out, much to their annoyance, as they acknowledged on Instagram afterwards.

"Next time," Alexander-Arnold captioned a photo of him celebrating with Mbappe. He also punctuated that Instagram story with a pinching hand emoji, showing a thumb and index finger with barely any space between them.

Alexander-Arnold posted the following message in Spanish on his main feed: "3 wins in 3 games. Great start, see you after the break."

Alexis Mac Allister, Andy Robertson, Curtis Jones, Dominik Szoboszlai, Kostas Tsimikas, Rio Ngumoha, Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk and Wataru Endo liked the post. Other former teammates, including Darwin Nunez, Jarell Quansah, James Milner, Luis Diaz and Tyler Morton also did.

Madrid players Antonio Rudiger, Arda Guler, Carvajal, Dean Huijsen, Jude Bellingham and Mbappe did likewise. Guler and Huijsen also commented with emojis on the post, as did Morton.

Alexander-Arnold will have a break over the coming fortnight after not being called up by Thomas Tuchel to the England national team squad. Djed Spence, Reece James and Tino Livramento are the right-backs selected instead, barely having half the caps combined - Livramento has 1, James is on 18 and Spence could debut next month - as the former Liverpool player's 34.
