Alexander Isak told he will be allowed to leave Newcastle United for Liverpool

Newcastle United accepted a £130million British transfer record fee for Alexander Isak late last night.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Alexander Isak had become counter-productive for Newcastle United.

The Swede is set to be granted his dream summer transfer after downing tools at Newcastle United all summer. A bid worth around £110million was rejected at the start of the month but Liverpool returned to the table late yesterday evening.

It is understood that the Reds’ latest package of £130million has been accepted, with Isak now set to travel to Merseyside for a medical. Toon chiefs worked hard last week to sign talented German youngster Nick Woltemade.

With one attacker through the door, Newcastle are pursuing another before the window slams shut at 7pm. Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, former Liverpool defender Carragher predicted a late move to happen - while claiming Isak’s omission began to derail the Magpies.

Jamie Carragher on Alexander Isak saga

“All the stewards have said that Isak’s coming,” he said. “I think both of those deals will get done, I would imagine so. It looks like Liverpool put in a bid last night (for Marc Guehi) and they’re arguing or fighting over £5million which is probably peanuts now in this day and age.

“With Newcastle getting one striker in, I’m sure they’re working today and tomorrow to get another one in and I’m sure they will. It’s better for Newcastle that they get Isak in as well. He’s ruined their first three games of the season.

“I was doing the Newcastle game yesterday and they didn’t look like scoring a goal. They’ve played really well as well in the first three games, not so much yesterday, but in the first two, and they deserve more points than they’ve probably got, but they haven’t got anyone up top.

“Just get Isak out the club, get your money! Obviously, it looks like he’s going to come to Liverpool.”

Eddie Howe gives Alexander Isak update

Using the word “update” might be a stretch for what Eddie Howe had to say about the Isak situation on Saturday. He said after the Leeds United game: "I don't know, I'm not party to any talks going on.

"I've been preparing for this game and you can imagine that's demanding enough. So I will find out like everyone else."

Jamie Reuben on transfer efforts

Speaking to TNT Sports at the Champions League draw, Toon co-owner Jamie Reuben insisted officials are working around the clock on new arrivals. He said: “They (the fans) should rest assured we're working hard.

“We have worked hard all summer to make sure that the team is in the best possible condition to compete at the highest levels of football. That's what we always want. We've worked very hard and we'll continue working very hard up until the last second to ensure the team is in tip top shape for the campaign ahead.”
