Villa and Man Utd could have a huge bearing on one another this transfer deadline day as discussions are underway over two significant deals, with players potentially moving in opposite directions.
Villa are understood to be in the market for a wide midfielder before the transfer deadline and have several options on a shortlist. It’s proved difficult so far to lure any targets to Villa Park due to financial restrictions set out by UEFA, though, and a move for anyone today will hinge heavily on the financial parameters.
Jadon Sancho to Aston Villa latest
Sancho has been on Villa’s radar for quite some time and talks are now underway over a deadline day move. Birmingham World understands a loan has been discussed rather than a permanent deal, though there are concerns over Sancho’s high wages as Villa are still working to meet UEFA’s squad cost rules.
The winger, who joined Man Utd from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a whopping £73 million, spent last campaign at Chelsea. The Blues had an option to buy Sancho but opted against it, instead paying a £5 million penalty fee. BBC Sport reports Sancho turned down a loan switch to Serie A club AS Roma earlier in the transfer window, while Juventus had an interest at one stage.
If Sancho is to join up with Unai Emery’s side today, the terms will have to benefit Villa due to their financial limitations.
