Report: Crystal Palace make significant step towards ensuring Marc Guehi is able to join Liverpool today

Marc Guehi helped lead his Crystal Palace side to a rather impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

In fact, he even bagged the Eagles’ second goal of the night with a dipping effort on the edge of the box.

Ever since the summer transfer window opened, Guehi’s future has been under question due to him having just 12 months left on his deal at Selhurst Park.

And now we’re getting into the final 12 hours of the transfer window, things finally seem to be falling into place for his Liverpool switch.

Crystal Palace are ‘considering’ a move for Axel Disasi this summer

One of the main reasons why the Englishman hasn’t been sold by Steve Parish yet is that they haven’t signed a replacement for him.

Palace’s depth is already fairly thin, and if they sold the centre-back without a solid enough replacement, they may as well kiss any hopes they had for the 2025-26 Premier League season goodbye.

Indeed, nobody they sign will be as good as their captain, but as per a fresh report from Sky Sports, it seems like they’re exploring many different options, with Chelsea’s Axel Disasi among them.

The report shares that Oliver Glasner’s men are now ‘considering’ a move for the Frenchman as they ‘continue to work’ on sourcing a replacement for Guehi.

Sky Sports also added that Glasner confirmed that the centre-back would only be sold if a suitable replacement was found for him this summer.

Liverpool must sign Marc Guehi before the transfer window deadline

Even though Ibrahima Konate put in a fairly solid performance against Arsenal on Sunday evening, his first few appearances of the season cannot be forgotten about.

The centre-back was one of the main reasons why opposing players were bagging so many goals, with the former RB Leipzig man miles off the pace.

And, although Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni can both be used instead of Konate this season, it’s clear that a fee worth between £35million-£40million is a steal for Guehi.

The Crystal Palace captain is arguably England’s best centre-back at the moment, and his arrival would at least give Konate some competition for the starting place next to Virgil van Dijk.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but with the way things have panned out across the window thus far, it’s hard to see why Guehi won’t become a Liverpool player by 7 pm on Monday.
