Report: Leeds United gifted unexpected chance to sign £15m midfielder on deadline day

Leeds United look set to remain active on deadline day, with Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer emerging as a key target.

Daniel Farke is eager to add more attacking threat to his squad and admitted after the 0-0 draw with Newcastle United that he will work late into the night to secure reinforcements.

The Whites have already brought in 10 new players this summer, with attacking options such as Lukas Nmecha, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Noah Okafor among the arrivals. However, Farke wants more attacking signings on deadline day as Leeds aim to strengthen their promotion push.

Gustavo Hamer has been on Leeds’ radar for some time, and with Sheffield United enduring a difficult start to the campaign, the Dutchman could finally be set to leave Bramall Lane.

Leeds United boost as PSV could be out of the Gustavo Hamer race after all

Ahead of deadline day, it was reported that PSV were advancing on a deal to sign Hamer from Sheffield United. For Leeds, it looked as though a deal was dead in the water. And it came at the same time that Leeds United found out Bilal El Khannouss is set to join Stuttgart, with the 49ers having also tried to sign the Leicester City man.

Now though, reports out of the Netherlands have given Leeds an unlikely lifeline in the race for Hamer. It is reported that PSV view Hamer as a potential replacement for Joey Veerman, and Brentford have been trying to sign the PSV man, but Voetbal Primeur write that PSV will only sign Hamer if Veerman leaves.

But separate reports coming out of the Netherlands from Eindhovens Dagblad report that a Brentford deal for Veerman is off after the Bees missed a deadline as part of their agreement for the PSV man.

Gustavo Hamer could potentially sign for Leeds United on loan

Already this summer, Leeds United have spent £100m on new players. Farke may still have some money left to spend with Leeds having an apparent £150m transfer budget this summer, but the Whites might even be able to land Hamer on an initial loan deal.

Last week, reports emerged claiming that Hamer could leave Sheffield United on loan with an obligation to buy, worth between £15-20million.

For Leeds and for Hamer, it could be a good deal: Leeds need someone with Hamer’s attacking quality and Hamer will surely want to consider his options on deadline day, after what’s been a terrible start to the season for his side.

Under new manager Ruben Selles, the Blades have lost their opening four Championship fixtures, having scored just one goal too.

Leeds United meanwhile sit in 12th place of the Premier League table having taken four points from their opening three games of the new campaign.
