Report: Everton 'exploring' late swoop for £21m midfielder ahead of the deadline

Everton are now making their move to sign a midfielder before the 7pm deadline.

David Moyes has seen eight new faces come through the doors at Finch Farm this summer, and more could be on their way.

The victory at the weekend was a huge indication of Everton’s summer business paying off already.

Everton head into deadline day looking to sign a new midfielder, as well as potentially adding a right-back.

There could be movement the other way, given Harrison Armstrong could leave Everton on loan to join a Championship club today.

But with just hours remaining, it seems the Blues have now decided which midfielder they would like to add to their squad.

Everton making their move for Merlin Rohl

Everton have shown an interest in Tomas Soucek, but West Ham are keen to keep the Czech midfielder around this summer.

With the clock ticking down on the Blues, attention has now turned to a player who has been of interest on Merseyside all summer long.

According to The Athletic, Everton are now plotting their move to sign Merlin Rohl from Bundesliga outifit SC Freiburg.

It is said that a deal could be difficult to get over the line in time before the deadline at 7pm, but the Toffees are making their move.

Rohl has been on Everton’s radar for months now, with the Blues looking at the midfielder earlier in the window.

This would mark a real coup for Everton considering Rohl has been valued at £21m previously this summer.

Huge hours await Everton in the market.

Merlin Rohl could add real danger to Everton’s midfield

Another attacking midfielder could now be headed to the Hill Dickinson Stadium before the end of play on Monday.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall shone at the weekend against Wolves, but competition is needed to really take Everton forward.

Rohl is certainly a player who could do that with some huge praise being thrown at the 23-year-old.

“He fought his way into [Freiburg’s] team. That’s not easy. He focused on defensive work and also came into his own offensively. He’s very quick and determined. He’s very dangerous,” said Rohl’s Germany U21 coach Antonio Di Salvo.
