Celtic hero Matt O'Riley set for transfer deadline day move from Brighton after Juventus deal…

Celtic hero Matt O’Riley appears to be on the move from Brighton today.

O’Riley left Celtic last summer in a £26m move that made him the Parkhead club’s most expensive transfer sale ever.

The Denmark international’s Brighton career got off to a great start after O’Riley scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Man City as the former Celtic midfielder immediately showed his class.

However, injury put paid to O’Riley’s Brighton start as the Celtic icon fought hard to get back into Fabian Hurzeler’s squad.

It looked like O’Riley had sealed a move to Juventus this summer, but as that deal collapsed, it seems that the former Celtic midfielder could still be on the move this summer.

Celtic icon Matt O’Riley set to leave Brighton for Marseille on loan

It appears that O’Riley is set for a temporary move away from the Premier League side this season after French journalist Fabrice Hawkins delivered an update on the former Celtic man’s future.

Hawkins said on X, “EXCLUSIVE: Matt O’Riley arrives in Marseille. Agreement between Brighton and OM for a straight loan without a purchase option.

“The midfielder is expected in Marseille this Monday morning.”

O’Riley was a hugely popular and successful player at Celtic, but with a straight loan move being brokered, should Brendan Rodgers have asked the question?

Have Celtic missed a trick with Matt O’Riley on transfer deadline day?

O’Riley loved his time at Parkhead and the Brighton star still speaks fondly about his time at Celtic.

According to Spotrac, O’Riley is currently being paid £50,000 per week by Brighton until 2029.

That wage is not entirely out of Celtic’s scope and with Brighton likely covering a percentage of the salary, could Celtic have nipped in and asked the Premier League club a question about O’Riley?

Unfortunately, Celtic fans will never know as it now looks like the Danish international will be strutting his stuff in Ligue 1 this season.
