Manchester United and England icon Wayne Rooney has admitted that he is keen for the Red Devils to sign one “top” player before the transfer window slams shut.
The Premier League’s transfer window opened from 1st June and ran until 10th June in its first phase before it temporarily closed ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
This summer’s transfer window reopened on 16th June and runs until 1st September, with the closing time for deadline day also being pulled ahead.
Premier League clubs have until 7pm UK time to ensure their transfer business is done on Monday, with the time brought forward from the previous 11pm deadline.
Manchester United have seen several new signings arrive through the doors of Old Trafford, all the while different first-team talent has been offloaded this summer.
Ruben Amorim received a major boost with the acquisition of players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, while the likes of Marcus Rashford have been loaned out.

Wayne Rooney reveals his stance on Man Utd target Emiliano Martinez ahead of the 2025 summer transfer deadline day
Manchester United have been linked with signing a new shot-stopper this summer, with Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens emerging as a target for the Red Devils.
Along with United’s interest in Senne Lammens, the club have been linked with several different names, including Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
United are in desperate need to overhaul their options between the sticks, with the error-prone Altay Bayindir failing to impress as a challenger to Andre Onana.
Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, the 39-year-old United legend has said that he would prefer the club to sign Emiliano Martinez ahead of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
“No, I think Martinez is obviously a top goalkeeper,” Wayne Rooney said ahead of deadline day.
“And I think if that could happen, then great. I think him or Donnarumma, for me, would be a fantastic acquisition.
“I think it’s clear they need a goalkeeper. I think it’s every game we seem to be talking about mistakes or, you know, the goalkeepers not filling the defence with confidence.”

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney drops his clear-cut Emiliano Martinez prediction amid the Aston Villa star’s uncertain future
Emiliano Martinez has been subject to United’s interest this summer and the 32-year-old Argentine is reportedly keen to remain in England if he leaves Aston Villa.
The 2022 World Cup winner has been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, but it is believed that Villa star Martinez would prefer the switch to Old Trafford.
Rooney maintained his feelings over the Argentina international and the United icon believes that Martinez would be the “one” who would “really improve” the Red Devils.
“So, yeah, I think it’s hopefully, you know, over the next 24 hours, I think Martinez would be the one who would really improve them a lot,” he continued.
“So, it’d be nice to see him.”
Martinez is under contract with Villa until 2029 and the Premier League club are holding out for a transfer price of around £40m for the United-linked shot-stopper.
