Fabrizio Romano: Aston Villa in talks to sign £275,000-a-week forward after Marco Asensio hijack

Manchester United and Aston Villa are reportedly still in talks to try and agree on separate deals for Jadon Sancho and Emiliano Martinez.

GIVEMESPORT sports correspondent Fabrizio Romano reports that both players are the subject of negotiations between the two clubs, although a swap deal isn't on the table. Sancho has until the 7PM deadline today (September 1) to make a decision over his future.

Sancho hasn't featured for United this season after being frozen out of Ruben Amorim's first-team as a member of the 'bomb squad'. He spent last season on loan at Chelsea but the Blues paid a £5m penalty fee to opt out of a £25m agreement to buy.

Romano gave an update on the situation regarding talks between the two clubs for Sancho and Martinez. He wrote on X:

"Negotiations between Aston Villa and Man United continue on (Deadline Day) for Jadon Sancho. Separate deal from Emi Martínez but both in same conversation, trying to get both agreements done. Sancho has to decide his future today or eventually move to non-European club."

Sancho, 25, has been offered several routes out of his Old Trafford nightmare, including a possible switch to AS Roma, but his huge £275,000 per week wages at United (via Salary Sport) have seen him snub proposals to make the move. He could yet stay in the Premier League with Villa who previously signed his former teammate Marcus Rashford on loan last season when Amorim exiled him.

Rashford re-found form under Emery and wasn't the only loanee to impress at Villa Park. He was joined by Marco Asensio who arrived temporarily from Paris Saint-Germain and was a standout performer in the second half of the season.

Fenerbahce hijacked Villa's move to sign Asensio permanently on Sunday night, which came as a blow for Emery. Sancho could be a viable alternative with a point to prove after his United struggles.
