Leeds United receive a lifeline in pursuit of Gustavo Hamer
Gustavo Hamer’s future at Sheffield United is under the scanner on deadline day, and he could leave the club before the window closes later this evening.
However, Leeds were seemingly on the back foot in the race to sign him after it emerged that PSV Eindhoven are in advanced talks to sign the attacking midfielder.
The Dutch club had the edge in the race over the Whites, but the situation seems to have changed in a matter of hours.
PSV were looking to bring in Hamer as the replacement for Joey Veerman, who was expected to join Brentford in the Premier League on deadline day.
However, according to Eindhovens Dagblad, Brentford have gone cold on Veerman since Sunday despite agreeing on a fee with PSV, and the Dutchman is now expected to stay.
With Veerman not leaving PSV, the club will not be advancing on a deal to sign Hamer from Sheffield United on transfer deadline day.
Leeds now have a clear run at Hamer if they want to sign him from the Blades in the coming hours.
Sheffield United have clear financial demands
Hamer is still expected to leave the Blades before the end of the window, and would now prefer to join a club in the Premier League.
Leeds are interested in the midfielder, and while Sheffield United are open to loaning him out, they want an obligation to buy set at around £15m to £20m.
It remains to be seen whether the Whites make a concrete move to sign the attacking midfielder before the window closes later today.
