'Here we go!' - Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United agree first deadline day transfer

The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip on deadline day of the summer window.

Manchester United have agreed to sell Antony to Real Betis on deadline day of the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements all summer and has been holding out for a return to Betis after his successful loan spell with the club last season.

It comes just days after Betis released a statement to confirm they had withdrawn their offer to sign Antony from Betis because the player wanted the remainder of his United deal to be paid off by the club. However, it is understood an agreement has been reached and the forward has been given permission to travel for his medical with the La Liga club.

It is understood Betis will pay a fixed fee of £21.6 million with a further £2.6m in potential add-ons. United will also retain a 50 percent sell-on clause of any profit made on a future transfer. It means United will receive half of any fee over the initial £21.6m sale figure.

Antony set to join Betis

Antony made it clear he would prefer to join Real Betis again this summer after he enjoyed a successful loan spell with the La Liga club last season. The Brazilian forward joined Betis on loan in the January transfer window and netted nine goals and grabbed five assists in 26 appearances as they reached the Conference League final.

Manchester United paid a staggering £81.3 million to sign Antony from Ajax in 2022, where he scored 12 goals and registered five assists in 96 appearances for the club. Antony was part of the 'bomb squad' that was frozen out by Ruben Amorim at the start of the summer and not required to report for pre-season training at the club.

United made it clear they would rather sell Antony this summer than sanction another loan exit and Fabrizio Romano confirmed an agreement is in place for him to leave the club on Monday. Taking to social media on deadline day, the notorious transfer reporter wrote: "Antony to Real Betis, here we go! €22m plus €3m fee to Manchester United. Manchester United will have 50% sell-on clause on profit for the future sale. Antony, in Sevilla in the next 24h for medical as deal is done. Antonio vuelve a Betis."
