Crystal Palace are looking to sign Getafe’s Christantus Uche on deadline day.
Earlier today, Marca and AS reported the Eagles have offered €20m to sign the striker, who is travelling to London to complete a move to Selhurst Park.
Having rejected Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, he’s been keen on staying at Getafe. If the 22-year-old were to join Crystal Palace, Marca said it’ll be against his will.
A fresh report from Marca now provides the latest twist in this saga.
The La Liga club have to raise funds to register summer signings and also bring in new faces on deadline day. Uche’s sale can help them, and the Spanish club were on track to improving their finances with the frontman’s trip to London to join Crystal Palace.
Marca and other members of the Spanish media caught up with Getafe president Ángel Torres, when he arrived at the club’s HQ this morning.
“Hectic hours? No,” he said.
When asked about the Nigeria international’s reported trip to London to seal a move to Crystal Palace, Torres explained: “Nothing is finalised, no one has left yet.”
The president said Uche is looking for a new club despite the Spanish press stating otherwise.
“The footballer wants to leave. He’s always wanted to leave,” he added.
It’s worth noting Torres recently denied events that took place, some of which were even captured on camera. He’s not exactly been the most reliable voice on Getafe, despite being president of the club.
For example, Uche’s agent was filmed going in for a meeting with Getafe and even spoke to media outside the stadium about that meeting. The president, however, publicly dismissed meeting the representative.
That hasn’t been the only example, and Uche himself appeared to get so stressed out by it all last week that he crashed his car at training. Torres appears to be wanting to escape any criticism for selling the player, and he doesn’t mind whether he uses truth or otherwise to do so.
