Man Utd face unwanted Jadon Sancho scenario as Aston Villa push for transfer

Manchester United are looking to offload several players on deadline day, with the club's focus being on securing a new first-choice goalkeeper. Deals for Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli and Antony to Real Betis are nearing completion, but the Red Devils are yet to find a new home for £73million winger Jadon Sancho. Despite interest from Roma and Aston Villa in a loan deal for Sancho, it appears increasingly likely that the 25-year-old will remain at Old Trafford beyond the transfer deadline.

The England international spent last season on loan at Chelsea, who paid United a £5m penalty fee after backing out of a deal to sign him permanently. He has not featured for United since a brief appearance in last year's Community Shield. United and Villa are in talks about a deal but it remains to be seen if it comes off.

Sancho, who made a high-profile move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, has failed to replicate his impressive form from his time in Germany. He has made 83 appearances for United, scoring 12 goals.

The winger's troubles began during the 2023-24 season when he fell out of favour with then-manager Erik ten Hag over his training performances. Despite denying these claims, Sancho was subsequently loaned back to Dortmund and then to Chelsea, where he scored five goals in 41 games.

However, his performances were not enough to secure a permanent move to Stamford Bridge. He has been heavily linked with a switch to Serie A this summer, but potential moves to both Juventus and Roma have yet to come to fruition.

United are keen to offload all of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad', but so far have only succeeded in loaning Marcus Rashford to Barcelona and selling Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for a hefty £40m.

Defender Tyrrell Malacia, Ten Hag's first signing at the club, is currently in discussions with Spanish outfit Elche about a possible move.

In the meantime, United remain hopeful of securing some new signings as they look to strengthen Amorim's team following a disappointing start to the campaign.

The Red Devils are pursuing Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez after witnessing blunders from Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana this season.

United are also on the hunt for a fresh central midfielder after being rebuffed by Brighton over a bid for Carlos Baleba, who the club rate at over £100m.
