Case closed – Barcelona rule out rising star’s exit on deadline day amid Chelsea push

The last day of the summer transfer window is here, and FC Barcelona have a couple of issues that need to be dealt with before the clock hits midnight.

For starters, the loan move of out-of-favour youngster Hector Fort to Mallorca needs to be finalised, although at this point it is not ruled out that he stays at the club until January.

The second issue that needs to be addressed is the future of Fermin Lopez, who continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea.

Barcelona close the doors

However, according to the latest update from RAC1, as far as Barcelona are concerned, the Fermin Lopez case is ‘closed’.

Indeed, the Blaugrana have ruled out the possibility of a deadline day departure for the 22-year-old rising star, despite the continued links to Chelsea.

Neither the player has asked to leave the club so far, nor Chelsea have made an offer that is anywhere close to Barcelona’s valuation of the La Masia graduate.

The Blues did table an opening offer of €40 million plus add-ons over the weekend, but it was not even entertained by Barça, given it was well below their price tag for Fermin.

While it was expected that Chelsea would return with an improved proposal, nothing has happened so far, and Barcelona have now closed the doors on selling Fermin before midnight.

Fermin will, thus, remain a Barcelona player, at least until January, unless there is some last-minute drama on the deadline day.
