Jadon Sancho to Aston Villa transfer latest as Man Utd push for deadline day exits

Manchester United could be a busy club on transfer deadline day as they look to secure exits that will help them balance the books after splashing out nearly £300m on signings this summer

As well as trying to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper, Manchester United's focus on deadline day will be on clearing the decks with several outgoing deals. While deals for Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli and Antony to Real Betis are close to being completed, United are still no closer to moving on £73million winger Jadon Sancho.

Roma and Aston Villa have expressed interest in taking Sancho on loan, but United sources have indicated there is a realistic chance the 25-year-old may now remain at Old Trafford beyond deadline day. Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, who paid United a £5m penalty fee to renege on a deal to sign him on a permanent basis, and has not played for the Red Devils since a seven-minute cameo in last year's Community Shield.

Expectations were high for the England winger after his money-spinning move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, but he has struggled to rediscover his stunning form that turned heads during his time in Germany.

He's played 83 times for the Red Devils, scoring 12 goals. The beginning of the end for Sancho came in the 2023-24 season when he irked then-boss Erik ten Hag with his training performances and later released a statement denying that was the reason he was dropped from the team.

Sancho was later loaned back to Dortmund and then to Chelsea last season, where he scored five times in 41 outings, but it wasn't enough to secure him a permanent move to Stamford Bridge.

He has been strongly linked with a move to Serie A this summer, though moves to both Juventus and Roma have failed to materialise.

United are desperate to offload all of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad', but have so far only managed to move on Marcus Rashford to Barcelona on loan and Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea in a £40m permanent switch.

Defender Tyrrell Malacia, Ten Hag's first signing, is in talks with Spanish club Elche about joining them.

Meanwhile, United are still hoping for some incoming deals as they bid to bolster Amorim's squad after a poor start to the season.

The Red Devils are chasing moves for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez after seeing mistakes from Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana this season.

United are also searching for a new central midfielder after previously being turned down by Brighton over a move for Carlos Baleba, who the club value at more than £100m.
