'Good riddance'- Man United fans react to Jadon Sancho joining Aston Villa as contract debate now heats up

Manchester United have made a quick start to deadline day with Jadon Sancho now on the brink of leaving on loan.

At the top of Ineos’ to-do list on deadline day was to clear out the rest of Ruben Amorim’s unwanted players who were still at Carrington.

Antony is set to join Real Betis, Rasmus Hojlund is closing in on a move to Napoli, and now Jadon Sancho is set to join Aston Villa on loan.

With United in talks with Villa over Emiliano Martinez, Jadon Sancho has headed in the other direction, with Fabrizio Romano revealing he is on the brink of completing a season-long loan deal.

Man United fans celebrate Jadon Sancho leaving for Aston Villa

United were desperate to sell Sancho, and would have preferred a permanent sale. But after seeing several moves collapse, seeing the 25-year-old winger leave is a relief.

During the transfer saga, Sancho’s wages have been an issue, with clubs not willing to match his astronomical salary at United. It is still unclear how his wages will be split while on loan.

But on social media, United fans are simply delighted to finally see Sancho head for the exit.

One fan referred to Sancho as “the worst signing Manchester United has ever made”…

“Jadon Sancho is finally going to leave Manchester United & he’s never, ever going to come back. After all the drama, all the pettiness, all the games of FIFA, this news feels almost as good as any incoming deal”.

He wasn’t the only fan that felt that way either – “Manchester United have spent a total of £150m on Jadon Sancho when you include transfer fee and salary over 5 years. He is without doubt the worst signing in Manchester United’s history. Well done Jadon, that is some achievement.”

One fan made it clear that he “detested” Sancho for his time at the club – “Sancho clinging to that salary until the death. Leaving on loan for a third time, will almost certainly leave for free next summer to whoever offers him the most money. I’ve never detested a footballer more than – at any other club, let alone our own.”

Another fan wrote: “Aston Villa taking Sancho and giving us Emi Martinez. This is beautiful.”

With Sancho leaving on loan in the final year of his contract, there is also a discussion to be had around what happens next summer.

“United activating the option to extend his contract would also be stupid so I don’t expect them to do it, which means, next year; Sancho will either leave for free or United will request payment not to trigger the extension clause,” one fan speculated.

Ineos face crunch 2026 Jadon Sancho contract decision

Sancho’s contract at United expires in 2026, but the Red Devils do have the option to extend his stay until 2027.

Keeping Sancho on the books for another 12 months would certainly be an unpopular decision among the fanbase, but it would also allow United to protect his value and sell him on.

However, Sancho has made it extremely difficult to offload him this summer and Ineos would risk experiencing a similar situation next summer if his extension is triggered.

So Ineos must choose between letting Sancho leave as a free agent next summer and accepting that United will not recoup any of his £72m transfer fee.
