Jadon Sancho is reportedly on the verge of completing a season-long loan move to Aston Villa, with Manchester United approving the late deal.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jadon Sancho has been the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a versatile playmaker in the final hours of the summer transfer window. So, the 25-year-old Manchester United flop has been a target for the West Midlands outfit.
Aston Villa and Manchester United struck an agreement over a deadline-day deal for the Englishman, who will complete a season-long loan move to Villa Park. A report by Sky Sports has divulged more information, as Aston Villa will pay a loan fee and 80 per cent of Sancho’s wages. Manchester United may extend the player’s contract by a year.
Jadon Sancho and his situation
Jadon Sancho has been one of the most frustrating acquisitions in Manchester United’s storied history, as he has barely made his mark since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. Additionally, the player’s conduct off the pitch has been horrendous, with a run-in with Erik ten Hag two years ago sealing his fate at Old Trafford. However, the 25-year-old has yet to complete a permanent exit, spending the last 18 months on loan spells.
The English international showed flashes of brilliance during his loan spell with Chelsea before a permanent deal failed to materialise this summer. Sancho managed only five goals and ten assists in 41 appearances across all competitions, and he has returned to Manchester United. However, his stock in the market remains high, and the player is on the cusp of joining Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.
Move across the Premier League on the cards
Aston Villa’s renewed interest in Jadon Sancho has made sense. The Villans have been desperate to reinforce their offensive unit before the summer transfer window by signing multiple attackers, as Unai Emery asked the club to fill the void that Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio left when their loan spells ended. So, while Evann Guessand arrived from OGC Nice, Aston Villa wanted another attacking addition.
While Aston Villa wanted to re-sign Asensio and discussed a deal for several weeks, the Paris Saint-Germain forward is on the verge of joining Fenerbahce. So, Sancho emerged as a viable alternative, with Aston Villa and Manchester United quickly negotiating a deadline-day move for the 25-year-old Englishman.
Fabrizio Romano has now given his famous “Here We Go” for a season-long loan move, and Aston Villa will pay a loan fee and 80 per cent of Sancho’s wages. With the English playmaker entering the final 12 months of his contract, Manchester United will likely trigger the option of extending his deal. It will be interesting to see what further details emerge on this impending transfer.
