It has been a busy summer for Man City and Man Utd, but when does the transfer window shut for the Manchester giants?
Both Manchester based clubs have had a busy summer as they look to close the gap on Liverpool at the top of the table and stop them from running away with a second consecutive Premier League title.
Manchester City did the bulk of their work early, bringing in four players for almost the same fee that Liverpool paid in a record deal for Florian Wirtz with the German, so far, not quite living up to his lofty expectations. Pep Guardiola is yet to settle on his strongest XI, but as seen before under the Spaniard, don’t be surprised to see the Citizens peaking in the spring time when everyone else is running out of steam.
Across the city at Old Trafford, Ruben Amorim’s summer hasn’t quite been as harmonious with the Manchester United manager’s toughest task being to move on the five players who all demanded to leave. That list is gradually getting smaller though and the wage bill could be significantly reduced if Jason Wilcox gets his way in the closing hours of the window. Fans of both City and United will be watching the clock for various reasons and these are the key details that need to be kept an eye on.
When does the transfer window close for Man City and Man Utd?
The Premier League transfer window shuts earlier this year to allow for a smoother process in terms of administration and the staff involved in getting deals signed and sealed. England’s top league and the EFL have until 7pm on Monday the 1st of September to complete their business, however, there is usually a leeway of two hours, if the relevant paperwork is submitted before the 7pm deadline.
Unlike some other years, there is a level playing field between the Premier League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1 in that the window for signing new players all closes at the same time, what might be an issue though, or a blessing for some, is that the Saudi Pro League transfer window closes more than a week later on Wednesday September 10**.** Recruitment is a 24/7 365 days a year operation but clubs will have to wait until New Year’s day if they want to make any changes with the winter window this season open from January 1 to February 2 2026.
What business could City and United still do?
There has been a similarity to what City and United have been doing this summer but for different reasons. Guardiola needed to refresh an ageing team whilst Amorim had to clear the decks and sign players more suited to his system and philosophy. The biggest issue for United was always going to be moving players on and it could be a successful window by the time it shuts on that metric alone.
