Man Utd have"agreed deal"to sign 23-year-old star, five-year contract finalised - The Athletic

Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign a new goalkeeper.

The Red Devils have been exploring the transfer market for a new shot-stopper this month.

The club were simultaneously negotiating deals for Senne Lammens and Emiliano Martinez, but have now opted to sign the former from Royal Antwerp, as per The Athletic.

A fee of £18.2 million, plus add-ons, has been agreed upon with the Belgian outfit. Lammens has likewise finalised terms on a five-year contract. He is travelling to United for his medical.

United were initially not exploring a move for Lammens unless Andre Onana left, but the recent shortcomings in goal have prompted them to purchase the Belgian sensation.

Red Devils choose Lammens over Martinez

Lammens has built a good reputation for himself during his time in Belgium with Antwerp.

The 23-year-old had a wonderful breakthrough season last campaign. He saved an average of 4.2 shots per league game, with a success rate of 77 percent.

Lammens averaged 26 passes per outing with an accuracy of 71 percent. He also grabbed the eye with his long balls, dominating aerial presence and penalty-saving skills.

He has fantastic allround attributes and would be a good signing for the Red Devils. Lammens has the prime of his career ahead of him and could serve the club for a decade.

United need someone who can provide stability in the role. Martinez would have been a good signing, but he could be past his prime soon, as he is almost 33 years of age.

The Red Devils have chosen a goalkeeper with glowing potential. It remains to be seen whether Lammens can quickly adapt to the physical demands of the league.

The Red Devils may not be done in the transfer market yet. The club’s hierarchy could explore a defensive midfielder before today’s early 7pm deadline.
