Ipswich Town have endured a poor start to life back in the Championship, as they have failed to register a win to this point ahead of the international break and so Kieran McKenna is looking to strengthen his squad before the long campaign.

The East Anglian club were expected to be one of the busiest clubs in the Championship during transfer deadline day and this seems to be proving true as they chase options to strengthen the squad following this poor start.

There has been a desire to add further quality up front and this latest signing seems to have done that, with the club set to bring in a promising talent from Manchester City.

Ipswich Town set to sign Luca Fletcher from Man City

It has been announced on social media by Fabrizio Romano that Ipswich Town are set to acquire the services of Luca Fletcher from Manchester City.

The deal will be a loan move for the 18-year-old to the Tractor Boys, with an obligation to buy Fletcher as part of the deal.

It has been reported by the Italian journalist that it includes a buy-back and sell-on clause from Manchester City, with this being viewed as standard procedure by the Premier League club for youthful talents.

Luca Fletcher has yet to play senior football at any level after having left Reading to join Manchester City at 16 years old in 2023; however, he is seen as a fantastic talent for the future.

However, this deal appears to be one where Kieran McKenna believes that he could be part of the first-team project, in which they aim to return to the Premier League.

The Sky Blues will be pleased with the deal, as they may view this as the perfect opportunity to allow him to develop at a Championship side before bringing him back to the club should they wish with the buy-back clause.

On the official Manchester City website, his bio is incredibly complimentary about the talent he possesses, at just 18.

It said: “A versatile forward who primarily operates through the middle, Fletcher has explosive acceleration and speed that defenders find hard to match.

“Also a clinical finisher in front of goal when given the chance, Luca scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 17 appearances for the Under-18s in the 2023/24 season.”
