Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens for £18.2million from Royal Antwerp.
Lammens has agreed a five-year contract and is travelling to Manchester to complete the move before the 7pm transfer deadline.
United sources consider Lammens, 23, to be an exciting young goalkeeper with a bright future. United considered a move for Emiliano Martinez but are convinced Lammens is the right choice.
It is unclear if Lammens will go in as United's new No.1 after Ruben Amorim admitted on Saturday it is "hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment".
"Guys, they are humans," Amorim said. "Manchester United, everything is huge. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper in the situations that happen. We are in that moment.
"I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.
"All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. So, the players are struggling a little bit with all the things around the club. That is normal. So it's not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve."
United have conceded six goals this season and four of them have been goalkeeper errors, two committed by Altay Bayindir and the other two by Andre Onana.
Onana faces an uncertain future at United even if he stays at the club beyond the closure of the transfer window.
Onana has been determined to stay at United and was convinced his future was secure after the club failed with a loan enquiry for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Onana was also reassured by United's insistence that a new goalkeeper was not a priority.
However, United explored the possibility of signing Martinez on deadline day before striking an agreement with Antwerp for Lammens.
Onana, 29, was dropped for United's 3-2 Premier League win against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday after he committed errors for both of Grimsby Town's goals in their remarkable defeat of United in the League Cup second round.
United have been scouring for a new goalie the entirety of the calendar year and head coach Ruben Amorim's assessment of Onana has evolved over that time.
