Everton are working on a number of deals both in and out of the door at Finch Farm before tonight’s transfer deadline.

The Toffees are hopeful of signing Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl in a deal that could be worth up to £17m.

Rohl is in Merseyside to complete his move, however, there are only seven hours remaining until the window slams shut, so it will have to move quickly.

On the outgoing front, Tyler Onyango is expected to join Stockport County on a season-long loan deal and now there is another Everton first-teamer who is set to depart.

Everton midfielder Harrison Armstrong set to join Preston North End

Everton coaches believe Harrison Armstrong is destined for big things, and he certainly displayed that lofty potential at Derby County last term.

Derby fans waxed lyrical about Armstrong during his six-month loan spell at Pride Park, and manager John Eustace was keen to re-sign him.

However, despite approaches from The Rams and Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End appear to have won the race to land the 19-year-old’s signature.

That’s according to John Percy, who reports that North End have fended off competition and are ‘set to sign’ Armstrong before tonight’s 7pm deadline.

David Moyes loves Harrison Armstrong

Moyes said Armstrong returned a ‘different player‘ from his loan spell with Derby and reaffirmed his plans for the teenager after the Mansfield Town game last week.

“He played really well in midweek,” the Scotsman said. “He showed he’s got the potential to be a future Everton player, that’s for sure.”

Moyes is clearly a big fan of Armstrong, and if he does well at Deepdale, there is almost certainly a spot for him in the 2026/27 squad.

It wouldn’t at all be surprising if Everton hold the option to break the loan deal in January, too, so that may be one to watch out for.

The Africa Cup of Nations means Moyes will be without Idrissa Gana Gueye for a period.
