Manchester United have struck a deal to bring in Belgian keeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18.2million.

The 23 year old has penned a five-year deal and is making his way to Manchester to finalise the transfer ahead of the 7pm deadline. United insiders view Lammens as a promising young shot-stopper with a brilliant future ahead of him.

Whilst the club weighed up a swoop for Emiliano Martinez, they're confident Lammens is the perfect fit.

Whether Lammens will immediately step in as United's new number one remains to be seen, particularly after Ruben Amorim confessed on Saturday that it's "hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment".

"Guys, they are humans," Amorim said. "Manchester United, everything is huge. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper in the situations that happen. We are in that moment," reports the Manchester Evening News.

"I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment. But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better.

"We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham, because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side.

"All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper. So, the players are struggling a little bit with all the things around the club. That is normal. So it's not just the goalkeepers. I think everybody has to improve."

United have shipped six goals this campaign, with four of those coming from goalkeeper blunders - two from Altay Bayindir and another pair courtesy of Andre Onana. Onana's future at United remains up in the air, even if he remains with the club beyond the transfer window's closure.

Despite being keen to stay at United and feeling secure after the club's failed loan enquiry for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, Onana now faces uncertainty. His confidence was further boosted by United's assertion that a new goalkeeper wasn't a top priority.

However, United did consider signing Martinez on deadline day before eventually reaching an agreement with Antwerp for Lammens.

Onana, aged 29, was left out of United's 3-2 Premier League victory over Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday following his mistakes which led to both of Grimsby Town's goals in their stunning defeat of United in the League Cup second round.
