Everton are looking to add further reinforcements to David Moyes’ squad on transfer deadline day.
A new midfielder is among the targets, with Everton in talks to sign Merlin Rohl from SC Freiburg in what could be a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
The 23-year-old featured for Germany Under-21s at the U21 Euros in June, scoring a goal as his nation lost to England in the final.
Everton could pay £17.3million to sign Rohl, who can play in several positions across the midfield and attack.
Tyler Onyango is expected to join Stockport County on loan, with a deal agreed for the 22-year-old to return to League One.

Everton interested in late move for Kellen Fisher
Nathan Patterson could join Sevilla on loan in the closing hours of the transfer window, with the full-back hoping to play consistent first-team football this season.
Everton have signed Adam Aznou this summer, but would like to sign a further wide defender before the window shuts.
Seamus Coleman has returned from injury but the 36-year-old is always a risk of further time spent on the medical table, after missing the majority of last season.
And Vitalii Mykolenko has also returned to action, after missing the start of the season with a knock.

James Garner had been filling in at left-back whilst the Ukrainian was recovering, but the midfielder is a key option for Moyes in the centre.
With another full-back high on the priority list for Everton on deadline day, Kellen Fisher has emerged as an option.
Alan Myers reported on Monday that the Toffees are interested in a move for the Norwich City right-back, who can also cover on the left side of the defence.
Kellen Fisher would be a strong option for Everton
Fisher moved to Norwich from Bromley in 2023, and has emerged as a strong option for the Canaries in the Championship.
The defender made 38 appearances in the second tier last season, providing four assists from several positions.
Kellen Fisher completed 86.3% of his passes in the Championship last season, according to FBref.
The defender averages 2.05 tackles, 2.78 clearances and 1.23 interceptions every 90 minutes.
Fisher played the majority of his minutes at right-back, but also played at left-back and in midfield.
The 21-year-old is a strong passer of the ball and can contribute going forward, as well as remaining strong in defence.
