Tyrell Malacia could remain at Manchester United beyond transfer deadline day after talks over a loan move to Elche collapsed.
The 26-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim at the start of the summer and was not required to report for pre-season training so that he could instead focus on a transfer exit.
Elche made an approach to sign Malacia before tonight's transfer deadline, but it is understood talks have now 'collapsed' after all parties were unable to reach an agreement over an option to make the move permanent next year. The La Liga club entered negotiations late last week but discussion broke down over the weekend, with Elche now set to try and sign Sevilla defender Adria Pedrosa in the final hours of the window.
United could yet sell Malacia to a Saudi or Turkish club, with the two respective transfer windows still open until next week. However, it is unlikely he will leave Old Trafford on deadline day.
It means the Dutch defender is likely to be the only member of the 'bomb squad' still at the club beyond the European transfer deadline. Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan with the option to make the deal permanent, while Alejandro Garnacho completed his permanent transfer to Chelsea over the weekend.
United have also agreed to sell Antony to Real Betis on deadline day and Rasmus Hojlund is poised to complete his season-long loan to Napoli, with an obligation to make it permanent next summer if the Serie A side qualifies for the Champions League.
It is set to be a busy end to transfer day, with United set to complete the signing of goalkeeper Senne Lammens before the 7pm deadline. United have reached a total agreement for the Belgian goalkeeper, which will see them pay Royal Antwerp a fixed fee of £18.2 million, plus add-ons. Lammens has already agreed on personal terms over a five-year deal.
