Manchester United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper on transfer deadline day. Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana have both struggled badly at Old Trafford and there is hope that Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens might step up if his transfer from Royal Antwerp is finalised.

United are in dire need of a dependable No. 1 who can consistently perform for Ruben Amorim's team. It's a role they have struggled to fill since the peak of David de Gea's career ended in the early 2020s.

There will be hope at M16 that Lammens, at just 23, can rise to such a high-pressure role. Below is a look at the latest reports surrounding United's goalkeeping situation...

Lammens deal

United have agreed a deal to sign Lammens for £18.2million from Royal Antwerp. Lammens has agreed a five-year contract and is travelling to Manchester to complete the move before the 7pm transfer deadline.

United sources consider Lammens, 23, to be an exciting young goalkeeper with a bright future. The Reds considered a move for Emiliano Martinez but are convinced Lammens is the right choice.

Martinez latest

United did not budget for signing a first-choice goalkeeper this summer despite being admirers of Emiliano Martinez. The Reds approached Aston Villa about taking their vice-captain on loan, but nothing materialised.

And United now look set to sign Lammens instead of the Argentine World Cup winner who was left out of Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Onana's future

The Manchester Evening News understands that Onana's United future remains in serious doubt even if he stays at the club beyond the closure of the transfer window.

Onana has been determined to stay at United and was convinced his future was secure after the club failed with a loan enquiry for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Onana was also reassured by United's insistence that a new goalkeeper was not a priority.

However, an imminent deal for Lammens means that Onana faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford - with the Cameroonian yet to play in the Premier League this season.
