While no new signings were expected on deadline day, at least for the first team, FC Barcelona have moved to strengthen the La Masia ranks with a new addition.

Indeed, the Blaugrana have secured the signing of teenage midfielder Oriol Pallas from the academy of arch-rivals RCD Espanyol.

“Agreement for the incorporation of player Oriol Pallàs into FC Barcelona’s Juvenil A from Espanyol,” the club statement read.

Pallas signed his contract at the Barcelona offices earlier today, in the presence of the club’s youth football co-ordinator, Sergi Mila.

Barcelona have already raided the Espanyol youth academy thrice in recent months for the signings of Pol Mencheno, and brothers Minguk and Daehan Lee.

Now, they have added Pallas to the list as well, with the 2007-born midfielder set to be a part of the Juvenil A setup moving forward.

Pallas, 18, had been a standout performer for the Espanyol youth teams in the past and had even captained them in some categories. A midfielder with good game-reading abilities and organisational skills, it will be interesting to see how he develops at La Masia.
