Manchester United have left another long-awaited deal for the last minutes of the deadline day, with Antony all prepared to complete his permanent transfer to the Seville-based team, Real Betis.
Antony also spent last season on loan at the Andalucian side, impressing with energetic and vibrant displays on the pitch. The Brazilian scored nine goals and set up another five during his 26 appearances at Real Betis. The Spanish team were convinced on the player’s potential and wanted to add Antony to their project permanently all summer.
The two parties were close to agreeing on terms in the past week, but the deal eventually collapsed due to some disparities that seem to have been fixed now. Antony was not comfortable with taking a salary cut from his massive £6 million per year deal at United. Reliable media sources at The Athletic confirm that Real Betis and Manchester United have now finally agreed terms for the transfer of the player.

Antony’s transfer details
Antony arrived at Old Trafford under the guidance of Erik Ten Hag and cost the Red Devils a staggering £82 million in 2022. Manchester United will barely recoup any money made on a marquee signing from a few seasons ago. The deal with Real Betis is set to fetch Manchester United £21.65 million, a staggering difference to what the winger had cost them.
The transfer fee could rise another £3 million in the future with performance-related add-ons. The Red Devils will also receive 50% from future proceeds generated by the sale of Antony. The 25-year-old will not receive any more payments from Manchester United, nor does the club have to buy out the remainder of his contract at the club which has to be good news for United fans.

Bad transfer policy has to change
With Antony set to depart, Manchester United are only correcting a poor transfer decision made in the past. The overall Antony saga highlights the miserable decision-making at the club in recent years, which has extravagantly spent the big money in the transfer market without yielding any sort of results. Rasmus Hojlund, Raphael Varane, and the list can run extremely long.
Things do seem to be working on the correct path for Ruben Amorim after his club registered a 3-2 victory against Burnley this weekend. The victory was much-awaited after a dismal EFL Cup exit midweek.
