Manchester United knew they would have a very important deadline day. The Red Devils had a number of exits to sort out coming into the final day.

Ruben Amorim’s side also needed reinforcements for important positions, like the goalkeeping department.

Some of the players Amorim no longer had in his plans this summer included Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

The first name on the list left very early in the summer for Barcelona while Garnacho recently secured a move to Chelsea.

Now, as per journalist David Ornstein, Manchester United and La Liga side Real Betis have reached a package agreement worth around £21.6m to let Antony leave on a permanent basis.

The Red Devils will take a massive hit on the initial fee they paid to sign him.

The journalist mentions that Man Utd will also retain a sell-on percentage of close to 50%, which could help them benefit in the long run.

Antony spent the second half of last season on loan at Betis where he ended up being one of their most important players.

Antony was signed by Erik ten Hag for Man Utd from Ajax with immense hope, considering the promise he had shown in the Eredivisie.

He started well, scoring three goals in his first three Premier League games but that was arguably the highest moment in his otherwise disastrous career.

However, the Brazilian showed last season in La Liga that it wasn’t a lack of talent that prevented him from succeeding in Man Utd. It just seemed to be one of those instances where a club and a player simply did not succeed when in association with one another.

One major coup for United has been the fact that Man Utd have managed to let Antony leave permanently and not on a loan deal.

On the other hand, they have also managed to get his massive wages off their books which might give them more leeway from a financial perspective.

It will be interesting to see how Antony performs in a Real Betis jersey. Should he succeed, Man Utd could benefit from a potential sale in the future and let’s wait and see how things play out on this front in the coming season and beyond.
