Tyrell Malacia dealt blow after Elche talks, Man Utd outcast running out of options

Tyrell Malacia was hopeful of completing a move to Spain on the transfer deadline.

It has been a busy summer for Manchester United, who are amongst the action on deadline day after reaching an agreement to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.

United are also busy trying to get rid of players who are deemed surplus to requirements under Ruben Amorim.

Jadon Sancho has joined Aston Villa on loan, and Harry Amass could be next in line to secure a temporary move away from Old Trafford.

Other deals saw Alejandro Garnacho sign for Chelsea, while Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan earlier in the summer.

There has been less demand for other players, such as Tyrell Malacia, who has fallen down the pecking order at United following the arrival of Paraguayan youngster Diego Leon.

United were hopeful that Malacia would find a new club before the deadline, but that is now in serious doubt.

Tyrell Malacia’s move to Elche collapses

Netherlands international Malacia has endured a difficult time at Old Trafford.

After joining United from Feyenoord in 2022, Malacia arrived with plenty of promise and impressed in his first season at the club.

In the summer of 2023, the left-back underwent knee surgery that kept him out of action for a year and a half.

Malacia failed to impress Amorim last season before being sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven. Despite joining a team that would be crowned Eredivisie champions, the 26-year-old failed to impress, as the Dutch side opted not to sign him on a permanent deal.

However, Malacia appeared to move a step closer to leaving United last week.

Elche held talks over a loan deal, but The Athletic claims that a deal has collapsed.

Malacia runs the risk of staying at United, where he is not wanted by the head coach.

The transfer window in Saudi Arabia and Turkey will remain open for a longer period, but this means Malacia’s options could become even more limited.

Why did Malacia fail to secure Elche move?

United and Elche held discussions over the weekend when the Spanish side decided to walk away from a potential loan deal.

Elche did not want to commit to the inclusion of a clause to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The Athletic believe Elche are now turning their attentions towards Sevilla’s Adria Pedrosa.

Malacia is under contract at Old Trafford until next summer, but United have an option to extend for a further year.
