Kobbie Mainoo responds to Manchester United transfer message on deadline day

The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip on deadline day of the summer window.

Alejandro Garnacho has sent a farewell message to Manchester United supporters after his transfer exit was confirmed over the weekend. The Argentine finally completed his summer move to Chelsea on Saturday evening after United agreed a £40 million fixed fee that also includes a 10 percent sell-on clause.

Garnacho was frozen out by Ruben Amorim after he questioned the United head coach following the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and made it clear he only wanted to join Chelsea in the summer window. The 21-year-old was quick to express his delight at moving to Stamford Bridge, but waited until deadline day before he finally addressed his exit from United.

United paid a £100,000 compensation fee to sign Garnacho from Atletico Madrid in September 2020, and he shone for them at youth level, as he helped them win the FA Youth Cup just two years later. The youngster was eventually integrated into the first-team squad and became a key figure under both Erik ten Hag and Amorim, where he scored 26 goals in 144 senior appearances.

It was bittersweet to see a once-promising youngster leave the club after a sour divorce, but Garnacho is adamant he will also be grateful for the opportunities he had in Manchester. Taking to social media on Monday, he wrote: "Dear Mánchester. After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close. We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this.

"To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had. I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what’s to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career."

Kobbie Mainoo was one of the thousands of people who reacted to the post and wished him well at his new club with a simple comment that read: 'All the best bro," followed by a loveheart emoji.

Mainoo requested to leave United on loan last week but had his transfer request turned down by the club, with Amorim eager for the 20-year-old to stay and fight for his place. United have once again ruled out the possibility of Mainoo leaving in the final hours of the European transfer window.
