The move had been held up while Manchester United completed the final paperwork, leaving Antony stuck in Manchester waiting for the green light. With everything now signed off, he is boarding a private soon.

Betis had to sweat it out until deadline day, but they always counted on the winger’s desire to come back. His family, who stayed put in the city, had kept their home ready just in case, and that preparation looks to have paid off.

The club see Antony as a key part of their long-term plans, and the excitement around his return is already building. Once the formalities are done, he’ll link up with Manuel Pellegrini’s squad and finally get going again in green and white.
