Fleetwood Town’s squad for the 2025/26 season has been bolstered by the arrival of forward Ethan Ennis, who joins the club on loan from Premier League giants Manchester United until the end of the campaign.
The 20-year-old arrives at Highbury having gained his first taste of senior football during a loan spell with Doncaster Rovers last season, where he made 15 league appearances and contributed two assists as the South Yorkshire side secured promotion from League Two. A dynamic and technically gifted winger, Ennis is known for his close control, creative eye, and ability to beat defenders in one-on-one situations.
Born in Chester, Ennis began his footballing journey in Liverpool’s youth system before making a high-profile switch to Manchester United in August 2021. In doing so, he became the first player in 57 years to move directly between the two clubs, rejecting a new contract at Anfield to sign for United’s academy.
Just months later, he signed his first professional deal at Old Trafford in December 2021, two weeks after celebrating his 17th birthday. A fresh two-year contract followed last summer as United moved to secure his long-term future. While yet to make his senior debut for the Red Devils, Ennis has been a regular at youth level, featuring for the Under-18s and Under-21s in competitions such as the EFL Trophy and National League Cup.
His progress has also seen him recognised for his leadership and versatility, with coaches praising his willingness to take responsibility in attacking areas and his instinctive movement in the final third. Comfortable operating across the front line, Ennis offers Town pace, creativity, and a direct threat in wide positions.
Ennis follows in the footsteps of United defender Rhys Bennett, who enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Highbury last season, making 38 appearances and scoring twice in all competitions. Fleetwood supporters will be hoping for a similar impact from the exciting young forward as he embarks on the next stage of his development.
The Manchester United loanee will wear the number 16 shirt during his time with the Cod Army and is eligible to make his debut in Tuesday night’s Vertu Trophy clash with Accrington Stanley.
