With not much time left before the transfer window closes, FC Barcelona youngster Hector Fort appears to be edging towards a move away from the club.
A loan switch to RCD Mallorca seemed the likeliest outcome for the 19-year-old right-back, who is not a part of Hansi Flick’s plans at the club.
However, with Pablo Maffeo not leaving the Balearic club, the loan deal ended up stalling, leaving Fort and Barça to look for other avenues.
Now, according to Gerard Romero, Fort is moving closer to signing for newly-promoted La Liga club Elche CF.
The Spanish club have already roped in a player on loan from Barcelona, with Inaki Pena making the switch to Alicante last week.

Now, Fort could follow in his fellow La Masia graduate’s footsteps and sign for Elche. While the report does not mention the exact nature of the deal, it is expected to be a loan move until the end of the season.
Fort did not enjoy many minutes under Hansi Flick last season and has been deemed surplus by the Barcelona head coach this campaign as well.
If he does not secure a departure, Fort will likely be relegated to playing for Barça Atletic in the fourth division of Spanish football at least until January.
But it appears that Elche have swooped in to provide the youngster with an opportunity to continue playing in La Liga for the rest of the season.
