Man Utd suffer heavy Hojlund loss as Napoli confirm loan with conditional obligation

Manchester United have confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund has joined Serie A champions Napoli on loan with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2026.

The Denmark international failed to make his mark at Old Trafford during his two years at the club and fell down the pecking order this summer following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

A return to Serie A was strongly mooted for the former Atalanta BC attacker, and Antonio Conte's Napoli quickly emerged as the frontrunners to secure a deal in the last knockings of the window following an injury to Romelu Lukaku.

The Partenopei have now unveiled Hojlund as their latest high-profile signing, and the 22-year-old will be linking up with the likes of Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne in Naples.

Man United are understood to have received a €6m (£5.2m) loan fee for Hojlund, who will join Napoli permanently for €44m (£38m) next year if Conte's men qualify for the Champions League.

In total, Man United's €50m (£43.2m) package represents a loss of £23.5m on their 2023 investment, having paid €77.8m (£66.7m) to bring him to the Theatre of Dreams two summers ago.

Hojlund departs the Red Devils with a record of 26 goals and six assists from 95 appearances for the club in all competitions, including a measly four goals from 32 Premier League appearances last season.
