Manchester United have confirmed that Rasmus Hojlund has departed to join Napoli on loan for the 2025/26 season.

The Red Devils invested £66 million into Benjamin Sesko this summer, and Ruben Amorim decided Rasmus Hojlund was excess to requirements.

Manchester United have accepted a huge loss on Hojlund, with the 22-year-old initially joining United for a £64 million fee back in 2023.

Just two years later, Hojlund has agreed to join Napoli on loan with a conditional buy clause of £38 million provided the Italian club qualifies for the Champions League.

Hojlund leaves United on good terms unlike many others this summer, and his new wages in Italy prove he prioritised his career over money.

Rasmus Hojlund’s wages at Napoli revealed

While United had trouble offloading Jadon Sancho because of his wages, Hojlund has actually accepted a minor pay cut to make a move to Italy.

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta, Hojlund will earn 5 million Euros per year at Napoli if he is signed permanently. He has agreed to a contract until 2031.

That equates to £4.32 million per year, or just over £83,000 per week.

For context, Hojlund earned £85,000 per week at United, so he has accepted a small cut and signed a long-term deal that will last until he is 28 years old.

When compared to United’s wage bill, it means Hojlund is set to earn less than the likes of 19-year-old Leny Yoro (£115,000 per week), Andre Onana (£120,000 per week) and Joshua Zirkzee (£105,000 per week).

Rasmus Hojlund can follow Scott McTominay blueprint

When Scott McTominay was sold to Napoli, the general feeling among fans was that United did well to pocket a £25 million fee.

In hindsight, though, United will be kicking themselves. McTominay is now a Ballon d’Or nominee after being named the Serie A MVP in his debut season.

He has found a new level since moving to Naples to play under Antonio Conte, and Hojlund will hope to follow a similar path.

With McTominay and Kevin De Bruyne playing behind him, Hojlund can hope to receive some brilliant service in the 18-yard box.

McTominay continues to support United from afar, and like the Scotland international, Hojlund has also left on good terms with fans wishing him well at Napoli.
