Where Antony ranks among Man United's biggest losses as Real Betis move confirmed

Manchester United have confirmed the sale of Brazilian attacker Antony to Real Betis, as the South American becomes one of the Red Devils' biggest financial losses of all time.

Antony failed to justify his extortionate €95m (£82.1m) price tag following his arrival from Ajax in the summer of 2022, only coming up with a measly 12 goals and five assists from 96 matches in all tournaments.

However, the 25-year-old reignited his career under Manuel Pellegrini at Real Betis with nine goals and five helpers from 26 outings, helping Los Verdiblancos reach the Conference League final.

Following a protracted transfer saga, Antony has now been confirmed as a Real Betis player on a five-year deal, and journalist Rob Dawson claims that Man United will receive €25m (£21.6m) for the sale of the attacker.

As a result, Antony has become Man United's second-biggest transfer loss of all time at £60.5m, only behind Paul Pogba, who left on a free transfer after re-signing for £89m.

The Red Devils are supposedly set to receive 50% of any future sale, though, and they did not pay any money to the player to settle the remainder of his Old Trafford contract.

Confirmation of Antony's exit arrived shortly after Rasmus Hojlund was unveiled as a new Napoli player, and Man United also made a significant loss on the Denmark striker.
