The summer transfer window is shut, so it’s time to reflect on some of the most ridiculous stories that involved Manchester United.
There are not many football clubs that attract the same level of attention as Manchester United. That is evident whenever the transfer window is open.
In the past, top players at elite clubs used United to get better deals at their present club. Agents are also aware that linking their clients with the Red Devils will bring them greater publicity.
United welcomed five new signings to the club this summer, with Senne Lammens arriving from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.
Ruben Amorim will hope that the new signings help improve results on the pitch, while United fans can be thankful that some of the most ridiculous rumours regarding several reported targets proved to be rubbish.
Without further ado, United In Focus take a look at the three craziest United transfer rumours of the summer.

David de Gea return
The craziest transfer rumour of the summer saw The Sun link former United goalkeeper David de Gea with a remarkable return.
De Gea left United in 2023 when his contract expired, before Erik ten Hag signed Andre Onana as his replacement.

Onana has been a disappointment since moving to United from Inter Milan, but United were never going to re-sign De Gea, who extended his stay at Fiorentina.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a Bosman
After scoring just three goals in 26 league appearances last term, Dominic Calvert-Lewin left Everton as a free agent.
Calvert-Lewin got rid of his agents in an attempt to secure a new club after leaving Everton.
Alan Nixon reported at the time that Calvert-Lewin had a desire to play for United.
Thankfully, a deal for Calvert-Lewin never materialised, and United signed Benjamin Sesko as their new striker.
Calvert-Lewin eventually joined Leeds.
Fiorentina’s Moise Kean emerged as a target
United were in the market for a new striker before they completed a deal for Sesko with RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils were linked with Moise Kean after missing out on a deal to sign Liam Delap.
Kean has been at Fiorentina since 2024, following two spells at Juventus, and he previously struggled in the Premier League when he spent four years at Everton.
The 25-year-old scored 25 goals in 44 appearances last season, but he did not leave the Serie A outfit this summer.
United fans should be happy the club secured Sesko over the likes of Kane.
