Railston: United confirm late transfer for member of 'bomb squad'

Jadon Sancho has been looking for a new club throughout the summer window and has sealed a move to Aston Villa.

Sancho has joined Aston Villa on loan.

Manchester United have announced Jadon Sancho has joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan.

Sancho has been looking for a new club since Chelsea decided to break their obligation to sign him permanently. Villa have made an awful start to the season and signed Sancho on deadline day.

Villa have agreed to cover 80 per cent of Sancho's wages, but the deal includes achievable bonuses which essentially means his full wages should be covered during his stint in Birmingham.

United have also received a loan fee for Sancho, who has left on deadline day for a second successive summer.

A United statement said: "Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has signed for Aston Villa in a season-long loan deal, subject to registration.

"Sancho joined the club in July 2021, arriving from Borussia Dortmund. He had a loan spell back at the Bundesliga side in the second part of the 2023/24 season, appearing in the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid at Wembley.

"The winger spent the following campaign at Chelsea. Hence, this move represents the third loan of his career.

"Villa's next fixture is on Saturday 13 September, when they have an away game against Everton in the Premier League.

"We wish Jadon the best of luck for his time with the Midlanders."

United signed Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for £72.8million in the summer of 2021 and former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested he could become an elite player at Old Trafford.

Sancho was an England international and one of the most exciting players in Europe when he arrived at United.

However, he contributed just 12 goals and six assists in 83 appearances for United before his fallout with Erik ten Hag.
