Alexander Isak speaks on “long summer” waiting for Liverpool transfer

Alexander Isak is officially a Liverpool player but the striker is aware that, after a “long summer” awaiting a transfer, he may need time to get back up to speed.

Isak was unveiled as Liverpool’s 10th signing of the transfer window two-and-a-half hours after the deadline passed.

A deal worth £125 million was struck with Newcastle on Sunday night after a summer marred with controversy and fury from those at St James’ Park.

The Swede’s efforts to force a transfer saw him training alone and not involved in any of his former club’s pre-season friendlies or when the campaign began proper.

And speaking to Liverpool’s official website upon the announcement of his move, Isak addressed a “long summer” spent waiting for a transfer.

“It’s been a long summer, but I’m just looking forward, not looking in the past and just delighted that it’s done now,” Isak explained.

“I can get back to doing what I love the most and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Asked if he plans to be available for the clash with Burnley on September 14, he replied: “Of course. I think that’s the ambition.

“However, I’ve had a tricky summer where I haven’t played any games and had restricted training, so I think that’s one to judge and analyse where I’m at, how much I’m ready to give.

“I certainly want to play as soon as possible.”

Isak will have an opportunity for game time with Sweden as he joins his national team for World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo this month.

But clearly his focus will be on adjusting to life at his new club, saying: “I want to win everything.”

“I want to create history. I want to win trophies,” he continued.

“That’s ultimately the biggest motivation for me and I feel like this is the perfect place for me to grow even further and to take my game to the next level and help the team as well.

“I feel like this is the next step for me in my career.

“I’m super-happy that I’ve been given this chance and I’m very motivated to do something well with it.”
