Victor Lindelof: ‘Hopefully, I can help the younger players’

**Victor Lindelof**comes to Aston Villa with lots of European experience from his career in Portugal and England. He hopes it is one way he can "help the younger players" and put the campaign back on track.

‘I am super, super happy’

Lindelof spoke about how happy he was to have a new home after his contract expired at Old Trafford.

“It’s a massive club, and I was super excited when I heard that the club wanted me. I’ve been at the Premier League for many years, so I know what it’s all about.”

The 31-year-old started his professional career at Benfica, for whom he played 73 times, getting 12 appearances in the Champions League. He then was part of the group to win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 with the Red Devils, reaching the Europa League final twice in 2021 and 2025.

“Hopefully, I can help the younger players with my experience and also bring in the quality like I show on the pitch. I am super, super happy and thrilled to be part of this football club.”

The defender has been in England for eight years, playing almost 300 times for Man United. He has become comfortable in the country with his family, and this transfer suited his personal circumstances.

“I spoke to my wife, and we felt it was a good move for us as a family and for me as a player.”

The Swede is a friend of Robin Olsen, who had been the deputy shot stopper behind Emiliano Martinez for three years. He spoke about how the goalkeeper gave a constructive reference on the football club.

“I called him straight away. He only had good things to say about the club, and everyone working around the club. That gave me a very good feeling as well, and just positive things that made everything easier.”
