Graham Smyth names free agent that Leeds United could still sign after Harry Wilson failure

Leeds United are said to be feeling frustrated after failing to get a deal over the line for Harry Wilson on deadline day, and fans are equally annoyed on social media.

It appears Leeds had agreed a deal for Wales international Wilson, 28. A fee had been sorted with Fulham informing Wilson’s camp that they would sell him if terms were met, and Leeds met Wilson’s asking price.

That is reported by Graham Smyth, who also says that a move fell through at the final stage when Fulham chose to pull the plug on a move for him. That is despite Fulham signing Samuel Chukwueze and Kevin.

Wilson will now have to go into the final year of his contract at Fulham, falling down the pecking order following Fulham’s two new additions. He is on Wales duty with Joe Rodon, Dan James and Karl Darlow.

Graham Smyth names free agent that Leeds United could still sign

So, with four points on the board, Leeds are left with the squad they currently have at least until January. But, free agents can still be signed, and Graham Smyth has named a potential option on the YEP’s site.

That is attacking midfielder Josh Brownhill, who starred for Burnley during the 2024-25 season. Largely an attacking midfielder, Brownhill had a hand in 24 league goals from midfield, scoring 18 goals himself.

Brownhill has played 111 times in the Premier League, but decided to leave Burnley at the end of his deal rather than signing a new contract, even with Burnley promoted. Brownhill remains a free agent for now.

Leeds United have been linked with Josh Brownhill in the past

Smyth does not say that Brownhill is a target for Leeds even if he remains without a club, but Brownhill has been linked with Leeds in the past. Jesse Marsch is said to have been keen to bring him to Leeds.

This summer, there was no interest reported from Leeds’ end, but it is claimed that Brownhill was keen on a move to Leeds. With Wilson not signing on at Leeds, Daniel Farke may consider signing a freebie.

He has done in the past, bringing in Josuha Guilavogui outside of the transfer window. In the summer, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha joined on frees. It is unlikely, but it is not out of the question.
