Manor Solomon joins Champions League side on loan after Leeds United and Crystal Palace links

Manor Solomon was regularly in the news on deadline day as Leeds United pondered a return for the Tottenham winger, before Crystal Palace attempted to bring him to Selhurst Park.

Ahead of deadline day, it was reported that Solomon was looking to join a Premier League club before the end of the window. Leeds considered Solomon after missing out on Facundo Buonanotte to Chelsea.

A hero at Leeds last season after 23 goals and assists and the title-winning goal at Plymouth, Leeds chose not to re-sign Solomon. A smart decision in the end, with many supporters urging Leeds against a deal.

Many feel that Leeds need better than Solomon and have moved on from the Spurs winger. Surprisingly, Crystal Palace then opened talks over a loan-to-buy deal to sign Solomon from London rivals Tottenham.

But a move to Palace did not come to fruition for the Israel international, and it looked as if he would remain at Tottenham until January. However, Solomon has now left Spurs, and joined a La Liga side.

Indeed, Solomon has joined La Liga side Villarreal on a straight loan until the end of the season. As per Fabrizio Romano, there is no permanent option or mandatory clause in his loan exit from Tottenham.

It sees Solomon join a Champions League club, with Villarreal preparing to play in Europe’s biggest competition. Ironically, Leeds opted against signing Solomon but instead, he joins a big European side.

Villarreal’s first Champions League opponents? Tottenham…

What will be interesting is if there is a clause barring Solomon from playing against Tottenham. Such is the way football works, Villarreal’s first Champions League opponents will be Solomon’s parent club.

Villarreal go to North London on September 16, which will see Solomon instantly return to the place he has just left. Neither Tottenham or Villarreal confirm or deny if Solomon can play in that one-off game.

What is clear, is that Solomon will be playing in yellow next season for Villarreal. His first game in Spain will be a real test, Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, coming up against Leeds target Nico Gonzalez.
