Chelsea reportedly made contact over a move for a Wolverhampton Wanderers forward late into the summer transfer window, but they were informed that a deal was a non-starter.
The Blues had been plunged into a potential attacking crisis over the weekend, losing Liam Delap to a serious hamstring injury in their 2-0 Premier League win over Fulham.
The former Manchester City youngster is believed to be facing at least six and potentially up to eight weeks on the sidelines, while fellow striker Joao Pedro also looked a little worse for wear at full time.
While Chelsea's match with Fulham was going on, Nicolas Jackson arrived in Germany to seal a season-long loan move to Bayern Munich, but Chelsea then insisted on recalling the Senegalese striker following the blow to Delap.
However, Jackson had no desire to go back to Stamford Bridge, forcing Chelsea to instead bring Marc Guiu back from his Sunderland loan, and the former eventually got his wish as his switch to Bayern was confirmed late on deadline day.
Wolverhampton Wanderers' Jorgen Strand Larsen on August 16, 2025
As well as loaning out Jackson - who will join Bayern permanently for £56.2m next summer if he makes a certain number of appearances - Chelsea agreed to sell Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan a few hours before kickoff against Fulham.
In a desperate bid to bolster their attacking ranks, journalist Simon Phillipsclaims that the Blues spoke with the agent of Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen on Sunday.
The Blues were supposedly informed that a deal for the Norway international was not feasible, though, as Newcastle United had already failed with offers of £50m and £55m for Strand Larsen while they were searching for an Alexander Isak successor.
The 25-year-old only joined Wolves on a permanent deal this summer following a successful loan spell in 2024-25, where he managed 14 goals and four assists for Vitor Pereira's men in the Premier League.
The Old Gold paid Celta Vigo £23.6m to sign Strand Larsen, whose contract at Molineux does not expire until the end of the 2028-29 campaign.
Can Chelsea cope with their current attacking options?
Chelsea's Joao Pedro in action against AC Milan on August 10, 2025
Footage of Pedro limping in the dying embers of Saturday's win over Fulham was not a welcome sight, but the former Brighton & Hove Albion man appears to have avoided a serious problem and will likely be fit and firing when Premier League football returns.
Enzo Maresca can therefore breathe a huge sigh of relief, as Pedro's availability means that the Brazilian can be stationed up front, having recently operated in a deeper role behind the now-stricken Delap.
Maresca is not short of replacements for Pedro in the number 10 position either, as Cole Palmer could return from his groin injury straight after the international break, while Facundo Buonanotte has joined on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Guiu is not the only viable option up front for Chelsea either - should disaster strike, David Datro Fofana, Pedro Neto or even Raheem Sterling could start in the number nine role - but Pedro staying fit for the next two months or so is of absolute paramount importance.
