Report: Nottingham Forest player dealt cruel deadline day blow, he's now in real limbo

The transfer deadline day once again lived up to expectations from a Nottingham Forest point of view.

After a 3-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, Evangelos Marinakis decided to ramp up his deadline day shopping and bring in four new additions.

John Victor signed for Forest in the morning, with Cuiabano also checking in from Botafogo late in the day, with the announcement coming after the 7pm deadline.

With fans waiting patiently for post-window announcements, Forest signed Dilane Bakwa from Strasbourg and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal, with the Reds pulling that one out of the bag.

Although the excitement of the new arrivals is always the main talking point, there was also some outgoing business that Forest needed to get done.

Jota Silva in limbo after deadline day drama

For Jota Silva, it’s been a strange campaign, with the player making the matchday squad for game one against Brentford and then sitting out against Crystal Palace and West Ham.

On deadline day, he did manage to get himself hooked up with a move to Sporting CP, however, there is a problem, as A Bola reports.

Although Sporting got the paperwork done in time to actually take him from Forest, the Portuguese outfit missed the deadline to register him for their league campaign.

That means that he will move to Sporting and play under his former Vitoria boss, Rui Borges, but he will only be eligible for the League Cup and Champions League fixtures.

Silva will be devastated if that can’t be rectified by the authorities and will throw his short-term career plans into real limbo.

Silva did a job for Forest

He’s not alone with this concept, but Forest have simply outgrown Silva now that Europa League football is on the cards for the club.

Silva started just five games in 2024/25, and although he showed promise from the bench, he just never quite did enough when he started games.

Dan Ndoye, Omari Hutchinson and Dilane Bakwa are all significant upgrades on Silva and letting him return to Portugal feels like the right thing to do.

Silva will always be remembered for being part of the squad when Forest qualified for Europe and although he worked hard, he never quite did enough to suggest he’d be capable of making 30 Premier League starts per season.
