‘Very good player’ – EFL boss hails recruit from Leeds United

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic has labelled Darko Gyabi as a ‘very good’ player following his deadline day move.

Hull City have signed the midfielder on a permanent deal from Leeds United. HCAFC have handed him a three-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months on top of that.

Gyabi, 21, spent the past year-and-a-half on loan at Plymouth Argyle. He went on to make a combined 58 appearances for the Pilgrims in all competitions and scored one goal during his time at Home Park.

The Tigers’ head coach Jakirovic has delivered his verdict on the recruit, as per a report by HullLive: “Darko is a very good player and I like what I’ve seen from him.”

After sealing his switch to the MKM Stadium, Gyabi has told the official club website: “I’m very excited. It’s been a busy couple of days but now it’s all sorted out, I’m very happy to be here. There was interest from other places but when I spoke to Hull, they really gave me an idea and a feeling that I really liked. That’s what made the decision for me.

“It’s important to feel valued and to know there’s a plan and a purpose for the place you’re going into. That was very important to me and speaking to the manager gave me that feeling.”

He is still young and has potential to get better in the future. The England youth international will battle it out with the likes of Regan Slater, John Lundstram and Matt Crooks for a place in the team.

What now for Hull City?

Hull City are back in Championship action after the international break as they look to return to winning ways. HCAFC have lost their last two games on the spin against Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.

They have four points on the board from their first four fixtures. The Tigers were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Wrexham.

Jakirovic was appointed as their head coach back in June and left Kayserispor to take over. He was picked as their replacement for Ruben Selles, who has since linked up with Sheffield United.
