Liverpool's summer transfer business is completed, but there is already one deal in the works 12 months in advance. The Reds made several new signings during the summer window and also sanctioned the exits of key members of their squad including Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, among others.

While deadline day was dominated by the potential signings of Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi, there was also work being done for some outgoings. Harvey Elliott will leave the Reds to join Aston Villa after months of speculation around his future on Merseyside.

Elliott has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool for some time, with RB Leipzig showing an interest for much of the summer. It was Villa, though, who swooped in to sign Elliott on loan for the remainder of the season.

The deal also includes an obligation to make the move for Elliott permanent next summer. Villa will sign Elliott on a full-time basis for £35million next year when the summer transfer window reopens.

This means that Elliott's permanent move to Villa will be the first official transfer for next summer. It could also be a major help for Liverpool with their financial planning for next year and the next transfer deals they wish to complete.

After spending more than £400million on new signings this summer, being guaranteed to receive £35million with a year's notice will be a major boost to Liverpool for next year.

What business the Reds will look to complete in 2026 remains to be seen, but the additional money from Elliott's sale will go a long way to providing more room to work with for more new signings.
