Antwerp send heartwarming farewell message to Senne Lammens after Man United move confirmed

Manchester United decided on 23-year-old Senne Lammens being the right goalkeeper addition to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Despite the availability of more experienced goalkeepers such as Emiliano Martinez and Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ineos showed faith in their data-driven system.

Manchester United announced the signing of Senne Lammens late on deadline day, having walked away from a potential Martinez deal earlier in the day.

The Red Devils have paid £18m for Lammens, which is cheaper than the alternatives, but his potential is what makes it such an exciting deal.

Senne Lammens arrives as a fairly unknown player to most at United, but it is clear that he was adored at Royal Antwerp.

Royal Antwerp send goodbye message to Senne Lammens

Before the deal was confirmed, a top Antwerp figure raved about Lammens, calling him a “fantastic goalkeeper” and tipping him to succeed at Old Trafford.

Additionally, Thibaut Courtois gave his verdict on Lammens, suggesting that he is well-suited to Premier League football.

It seems United might have a gem on their hands, and Antwerp made it clear in their goodbye message that Lammens will be missed.

“Senne Lammens (23) is moving to the Premier League and will become Manchester United’s goalkeeper. Lammens arrived at the Bosuil two summers ago and grew into an absolute mainstay. This earned him call-ups for the Red Devils, and our fans voted him Player of the Season last year.

“Now, he will test his luck in a top competition like the Premier League.

Under United’s official confirmation post, Antwerp also replied: “Once a Red, always a Red! Good Luck, Senne!”

Senne Lammens must prove he can handle Man United spotlight

All data and statistics point at Lammens being a complete goalkeeper, and certainly one of the most exciting prospects in Europe.

But much more than just talent is required to succeed at United, especially as a goalkeeper.

Both Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir appear to have suffered a crisis of confidence after facing the pressure of being United’s shot-stopper.

Lammens will need to prove he can handle that pressure. United legend Gary Neville often says being United’s goalkeeper is the hardest job in football.

At just 23 years old, Lammens will be put to the test.
